mk1 golf gli 1980

Ive just bought a 1980 1.6 gli and ive noticed that when im driving its lacking power and im having to give it lots of revs to get it moving.
Its done 180 thousand miles but has been serviced and ive even tryed some redx still no change.

Please can anyone help or even might know what the problem is so i can enjoy my new car even more.

only thing is i think on the 1.6 the timing is set at 0deg BTDC with the vac line off and plugged? get yourself a brown haynes manual its awesome
