MK1 Golf 2.1Ltr 8 Valve cuts out

I have just purchased my 4th MK1 and am having it delivered on saturday, It starts but the engine cuts out again, I was going to look at the metering head and cold start but its an Audi 80 engine is this the same??

The engine is the same but its anyone's guess what components, or modifications, have been done to the fuel injection. Don't be put off by the mods, just check the basics, ie ignition timing and mixture. My guess is that the mixture has been fiddled with and/or something in the FI system doesn't work properly.

Could also be the fuel pump relay supply , if you mean it starts then cuts out as soon as key released ?
