MK1 ENGINE PROBLEM

I have a 82 mk1 gti and am having problems with the engine.I can drive it for a few hours the engine dies.Then it wont start untill the engine is cold.
Does any one know whats happening. :?  :?

Could be a number of things:

Blocked tank vent
Warm up regulator
Fuel pump

I'd start first by running the car until it dies then take of the fuel cap and see if it starts.  If it does Ok for a while again the the vent is blocked.

Otherwise it's a case of testing the fuel system and control pressures to see what's happening.

Could be coil or ignition amplifier breaking down when hot. I'd change coil first.

Has it had a recent service? If not you may want to consider changing rotor arm, dizzy cap and plugs. As well as air, fuel and oil filters.
