mk1 cab cooling issues

Picked my new cab up, drivig home and she seemed to be getting hot, stopped and released the cap slightly to a huge amount of bubbles, so bleed the system to release the air, filled up once cool with fresh water and turned on, temp gauge immediatly upto max and light flashing, ive put this down to dodgy sensor, but everything else all working great, fan cutting in, oil temp sitting a steady 80 odd degrees, but then i noticed the pipes to the matric are stone cold, and no heat from fans, tried and tried to bleed matrix, any ideas?

thanks

is the lever on the valve moving when you move the heater slider? when you bled it did you rev the engien now & again while squeezing the hoses to get the water shifting? also when you rev it watch the thin hose t the tank, should see a spray of coolant and bubbles come out. if not the waterpump is weak or the thin hose/rad is blocked

Thanks for the reply, the valve is turning, the rad overflow hose has no water coming out, im about to change thermostat, as was concerned i couldnt feel any water when the top head hose weas squeezed,

could this be a thermostat affecting system circulation?

Thanks

it should still circulate fine, just means the radiator isnt part of the flow if shut, or if stuck open the system will run too cool. the thin hose should always squirt coolant when you rev it regardless of themostat condition.  if the thin hose isnt returnign water it'll make bleeding the system a real shore! id start by removing it and checkign its not blocked, then check the rad connection too someone foudn it was blocked solid on theirs.

you can get a new hella rad for £24 if its a 1.8, if 1.6 then you'll need a shorter rad or buy a 1.8 fan shroud and both the rad pipes plus longer thin hose:
