mk1 1.6 gti running problem

advice or help needed.
car was stood for a long time, managed to get it to mot station just!
i seem to have made it run worse…pops and backfires , wont tickover.
fuel is getting to all connections on meter head.
cannot make plugs wet by holding down throttle.
am i right in thinking fuel dosent spray out of injectors untill meter head is rising?
cold start valve is squirting loads out..
have changed coil. plugs and leads.

Check your fuel filler neck for rust holes you could have rust in your fuel system if the car has stood for a long time also fresh fuel could help. Clean and check ignition wires for damage or corrosion and give them a spray with wd40 or similar. If the injectors dont  seem to be spraying you could try tweeking the fuel air mixture screw on the metering head to give you a little more fuel maybe your fuel pump has lost pressure since its been standing good luck
