Mk 1 Injectors

Hi Everyone Merry Christmas,I have a 83 GTI with a port & polished head which i fitted after the headgasket blown,The head fitted is the later one as used on the mk2's,the only difference being the injectors,The original one's are the push-in type which i have kept because they are connected to braided hoses, the do fit but probably not as tight as they did in the original head,The problem that i currently have is a bad (when i say bad i mean bad almost un-driveable) misfire which is constant through all gears,do you think this could be caused by the injectors? as i'm running out of ideas,I've changed all other possible causes plugs leads fuel filter etc.Any help as always is greatly appreaciated.

think the early mk2 dx heads had air shrouding for the injectors. if you look at the back of the head there should be a small pipe between inlet 2-3 iirc. there should also be a channel running between where the injector seats sits and a hole in the injector seats. I got the hole sealed up and used brass injector seats and welded the hole up on these so there was no air leak. if you have this channel and havent blocked it you will prob have a massive air leak?

this may be the cause of your problem?

also did you replace the injector o rings. they are only cheap and may be why the injector are looser in the new head?

cheers Ben
