Metering head popping??????

Some urgent help required!!

I was delivering the car to the guy who was buying the car when about 20 miles into the journey the car lost power and started to splutter along.

I pulled into the hard shoulder and turned the engine off and the problem had stopped when i restarted.  drove for a mile and it went again!!!!

Eventually couldn't risk going any further!!  Stopped and the guy came to meet me.

It appears that when it occurs the rubber around this area is being sucked in and then popping (i think)

A mechanic guy stopped to help and said that the valve in the metering head may be sticking??????

Does anyone have any ideas.  The guys still interested if i can sort this so want to get it sorted sharpish…. plus the car is abandoned about 20 miles from my house so dont want to leave it there!!!

oh yeah tunring the ignition on and off sorts this for a few minutes/seconds

Could very well be the main valve sticking, therefore the air flap will not open properly causing a vacuum which sucks in the rubber air duct - seeing that you have no fuel filter present and the fuel pipe goes direct to the metering head I would suggest that its clogged up with bits of muck/rust etc from the tank.......

It should be sitting on the cradle to the right of the metering head, there's a red wire going straight across it on your pic.

There's one in situ on this pic…..
