Manifold and earth problems????

Hello
havent been on thesite for a while been to busy restoringmy car.
hopefully someone can help me with a cupple of things to do with my car.
I have a mk1 golf gti 8v with a 2lt bottem end and a 1800 head. i have finaly got it all back together and running well apart from my maifold. i got a 4 branch maifold down to one then back to back box and after the engine has been running for 15 to 20 mins the manifold seams to get realy hot. glows red. the engine hasent even got up to temp andit sounds like it is reving and running normal.
Any ideas???

i also have  a problen with the fuel pump relay. i have a series one relay and with the engine off if i press the horn the fuel pump runs for a few seconds. then if i use the indicator it runs for a few seconds or turn the lights on and off it runs few a few seconds. or put the hazards on and of it runs for a few seconds. seams like a earth fault but i have no idea where to even start looking.

hopefully someone can help.
Many Thanks.

check for loose or daamged earths, start at the bottom of the column there should be a wire between a screw on the rack and the chassis. next check the earth from the rocker cover to one of the coil mounting screws, if not there add a chunky wire. finally take dash undertray off and look above fusebox for loose brown wires
