lumpy tickover
does anyone know of an easy way to adjust the co2 mixture on the 1983 1.8mk1 gti. shes running rich on tickover causing her to rev at about 500rpm and is hunting if you know what i mean?
i know where the adjustment needs to be made on the air flow meter etc but do i need a special vw tool or will a small allen key/screwdriver work?
any ideas would be much aprehciated.
cheers

No idea what tool you would need to do the adjustment, i tend to leave all adjustments to the fuel system to the experts, as I've never had much success adjusting fueling levels in the past, and normally make the problem worse!!

As you insert and apply pressure to turn it, you are actually forcing the metering plate in to it's closed position so the car may stall. Turn it in small amounts of about 1/8th of a turn at a time and allow engine to settle.
Are you sure it is a rich mixture and not just your idle setting?

Not so silly as i'm not sure! ops:
I think it is the opposite to the way you would expect,
ie. clockwise richens and anti-clockwise leans.

all sorted ticks over sweet as a nut to a nice burbling exhaust note!
rock and roll.
cheers for the advice it was a mixture of the idle and co2.
i think someone had over compensated for the low tick over with an increased idle speed. but all sorted now.
cheers lads
