lazy tappid???

Hello all dan here me and my girlfriend have just got a mk1 golf convertibale gti and we love it. Its got a lazy tippid at the mo ive changed the oil but its still there, Would anyone have some ideas on how to solve it? Could i do it or would it have to a garage job?

Dan depends on what engine you have and what year , have a look at your Haynes manual for advice . I would not be worried by a slight tap from the top end . Your engine may need flushing or the shims may need adjusting . Its a diy task if you are confident .

Is it a late Cab with hydraulic shims? If so, you could change to a fully synthetic oil like Synta Gold that may reduce the noise. If it is only noisy on cold, like Chudd, I would not worry too much. Replace the tappets when time come to overhaul the head.

i think ive solved it as it goes i had to change the rocker gasket and the nuts were really loose since ive changed it and done the nuts up tight its gone away. which is nice. thanks for youe help much appricated.
