hi i hope you can help me.i have a 1.8 gti k-jet and it started to misfire so i changed plugs,leads,coil and dizzy cap and no change so i then started to look at the fueling which is the problem.but where?iv changed the fuel distributor and now the car doesnt want to tick over even tho i have adjusted idle via the throttle body.when the car is running the fumes make your eyes sing.is it running to lean?if so how do you adjust it?but there still is a weak misfire.

what car is this?

fumes are exhaust yes? not petrol

doubt running lean would cause a misfire unless it was superdooper lean.

the haynes gives a good description on co adjustment.

i dont know if runnin too rich could cause a misfire? to explain the fumes…

mk1 golf gti 1.8 8v
 and yes im talking about exhaust fumes.
im pritty sure its running lean just goin by what other people have said but obv not 100% sure.

have a look at a sparkplug mate, if its white/chalky its too lean if its black/wet too rich. this is just a general guide. dont think this is gonna fix your misfire though :(
when you are altering mixture screw you should here a change in engine….

you will need to adjust your idle at the tb

if you dont have a gas analyser you can get it pretty close using the brake pedal tip i put up a while ago search 'mixture'

cheers for all of your replys guys but iv sorted the problem now.the car was running majorly lean and the rust from the old filler neck was blocking the fuel pump so there wasnt enough fuel getting to the block.al in bits at mo tho.any 1 know were i can get a new petty tank or a good second hand 1?o and pump?

hi guys i have put the car back together with new filler neck and flushed the tank out.before i striped everything down the pump was making a funny noise and when i had it off i ran it off a battery for a short period and it ran fine but now its back on the car its doing it again.can any1 tell me why this is?many thanx matt

pumps knackered, change it , clean throught your fuel lines, replace fuel filter, then buy some FORTE injector cleaner and run that through, ideally neat throuygh meteringhead ind injectors, then hope!!

try a secondhand one from crazyquiff on here, otherwise they ARE silly money, sometimes come up on ebay

hey guys bavk again.the fuel tank has been cleaned a second hand pump and accumilator from crazyquif mew fuel filter and fuel distibutor and cleaned all injectors and tested and the car runs shortly then cuts out.but when it does run (3-4 mins)it runs fine then cuts out and wont start again untill later.help needed many thanx

the mixture has been set up but im just fed up with the k-jet system now im concidering putting bike carbs on it nw wat do u think?

mate im runnin standard kjet at 124bhp, with  minor mods, kjets capable of 150/170ish with head work and a cam, and much more reliable than a carb set up engine, tho maybe less power.

theres gonna be an easy solution to this problem,
its an easy system (till something goes wrong)

have u seen this ?

new:
plugs
ht leads
dizzy cap and rotor
coil
fuel pump
accumulator
fuel filter
metering head??
clean tank
clean injectors

it runs for a few minutes then splutters to a stop, can u keep it goin by revvin it??

have u cleaned the fuel lines?

only other issue i can imagine could be the wur,

after all the stuff youve replaced already, if you can sort this your gonna have one sweet engine i reckon :wink:

you cant keep it running by reving it it just cuts out quicker.the metering head has been replaced(fuel dist) and all fuel lines are spotless.

when it does run for its 3/4mins, it runs nice yes?
the wur richens the mixture on start up. maybe its still runnin too lean, so when the wur switches off, the mixture leans out too far? and stalls it.
