K-jet head question..

Folks , getting it hard to find a spare 1.8 k-jet mechanical tappet head, will a Hydraulic one work , if the followers/tappets are replaced with mechanical ones , and keeping the shorter hydraulic valves? The shorter valves would be better for higher RPMs too..

Can a 1.6 MK1 GTi head be used on a Mk1 1.8 block?

Ok no worries. I'm pretty sure 1.8 hydraulic and non-hydraulic heads are interchangeable, and that the 1.6 won't fit because the engines have a different bore.

hi you can't put solid tappets in a hydralic head, you can use one but u need to keep it hydralic, also you can't fit a 1.6 gti head on a 1.8 gti as the casting is different, there are two oil drain holes on a 1.8 only one on a 1.6.

Mechanical came first, VW introduced hydraulic heads were introduced about 1987.
1981 1600 GTI (coming to a road near you soon…)
