Is it Worth changing?

Hi all, iv got a mk1 golf cabby 1.8 8v and been having problems with pre ignition… When I turn the car off after having a good drive the engine will still try and turn over Iv been told this is a carb issue the thing is I have recently had my 2e carb Ultrasonically cleaned and what I believed was working diaphragms, the car has been getting a little warm and sometimes idles high and then other days low….. Now iv been talking to fellow car enthusiasts and iv been advised to chuck the whole carb system and place injection in instead…..
What I'd like to know is how will injection affect the
Running
Power
Performance
Economy
As well as what injection would be best to go with :)
Basically any info you guys may know about changing to injection and whether this will solve my issues :) cheers all

has it been running very badly in the past? if so you could have excessive carbon buildup in the bores mny 1.6 was liek this. easy fix fill a jug with water, then remove the air filte.r start the engine and wait till its fully warmed up (choke flap on top is fully open) then while holdign the revs at around 1500-2000 rpm slowly trickle the water down the carb. stop when the engien starts to bog down, and wait till it picks up again before pouring a little more in there.

now i know this sounds crazy, but what happens is the water gets vaporised in the bores and steam cleans the inside of the bores. the trick is to not pour in too much just take it slow and keep the revs up to ensure it doesnt stall.

if you have ever worked on an engine with head gasket failure you'll know that the bores which had water leaks are spotless compared to the others

i also had over-run issues when my rad fan was knackered, it got a little bit too hot which doesnt help with over-run issues. once that was sorted my problems were over
