Is it my dizzy?

Hi everyone this is my first post. I have a 83 gti and I am having trouble with rough running. The problem I have is I have a slight irregular missfire on tickover, and when the car is warm and driving at motorway speeds the car suddenly looses power, misses, lurches and the coolant temp light starts flashing. If I back off the throttle for a while it returns to normal but the coolant light is still flashing but the engine is not too hot. I have a new tci, coil fuel relay and pump and the timing is spot on, the only thing I have not replaced yet is the dizzy. Anyone have any ideas?

I am not very mechanically minded but my sportline was running and starting rough, then would not start at all and when I checked the dizzy and rotor arm it was pretty obvious that it was them.
The rotor arm had started disintegrating at the end so got a new cap and arm from euro car parts for about £16ish and it sorted it out.

It's not an expensive thing todo so if in doubt just change them IMO.

doesnt sound liek the dizzy to me, if it was that the rev counter would be going dappy. id say you are loosing ignition power, or maybe the coil or TCI/spark controller is dead

The tci module and coil are less than 3 months old so I will be upset if it does turn out to be that. I find it strange though how as soon as it starts to loose power the temp warning light cuts in. Also Tonight i noticed the fuel pump relay was getting warm but not hot.

Just put some bosch super 4's in and hey presto smooth idle and no kangaroos. Thanks rubjonny for pointing out ignition problems which it was sort of.

Does changing to those plugs make such a difference?
Might get some for my Cabby….

It does when my plugs were obviously knacked. I would normally just buy NGK triples but I had a £10 voucher for halfords so I pushed the boat out. They are probably just a little bit better.
