Is it dying?

Tinkering around with my cabby the other day trying to find out why ive got a slow drain on my battery which I think could be bad earthing and I decided to check my oil while I was out messing and to my horror the dipstick was caked in mayonaise :( I checked the oil filler cap and this also had a bit (not much) under there as well.
It dosent seem to be losing water/coolant though.
Ive not been doing many miles recently only short-ish journeys between 5-10 miles at a time and the dipstick plastic cap thingy is snapped, Could it just be condensation?

thanks

Edit: oops sorry mods this should be in the big block carb engines forum.

what age is it, later ones had a oil-water cooler, look under the oil filter housing its the block thing with 2 coolant hoses to it. if these fail oil & water will mix, tho generally your coolant gets oil in, not the other way round. mayo on the dipstick is a bad sign though, generally condensation will only appear on the oil filler cap, not the dipstick.

take it for a good long run to allow oil temps to get right up for a while, then check again

I'll try and get it out for a good long run this weekend if I can.

When you say bad sign, what sort of bad sign?  :(

usually means head gasket failure :(

even when my oil cooler went there was no mayo in the dipstick

Small update on this.

Today I went for a bit of a cruise approx 25-30 miles, its the first time ive had it out in over two weeks. Soon as I got back I checked the dipstick and oil filler cap and no mayo in sight, still not losing any water/coolant and to be honest when she warmed up she drove very well. I ordered a new dipstick guide cap thingy from ebay a few weeks back and fitted it before my run out this morning. Ill be having a few more spins out this week as ive a few days off work so i'll keep checking the dipstick.

sounds like the same problem i had with my cabby. is almost definatly just condensation. a compression check would help to find if it is head gasket or not. these can be bought for a few quid from somewhere like halfords.

I took it for a good few drives out that week did approx 100 miles in total and still no mayo so thank goodness its looking like it was condensation. I borrowed a compression testing kit off my Dad so i'll still give it a test when I get the time over the coming weeks.

cheers.
