Idling - Cold and Warm Issues.

Really hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have an '83 1.8gti.

The idling is fine on cold start up - around 800rpm, but then running at warm temp it idles at 1200rpm, which then concerns me sat in traffic (as temp rises). Been searching the site and maybe I need to replace the WUR? Or is it likely to be something else? Cheers Chris

I seem to have the same thing mate, idles ok at start up, then when idling when warm sometimes its 900, sometimes its 1300, sometimes its even higher then slowly drops back to 1000.

cant get me head round it as it doesnt always do it consistantly enough for me to test it.

Yeah its not always the same, quite random - if I set off and drive around 30mph would be fine at lights, but if I hit the motorway - do about 70+, come off and sit at lights; it will tick over at around 1200rpm.

I've had air flow pipe off because I thought maybe the throttle was sticking a bit open, but everything seems fine. All breathers seem right and clear.

Starts first time, every-time without having to give it gas, probably something and nothing. Hopefully somebody has resolved a similar problem.  :?

ive had a play with mine when it was messing about.  The idle adjustment screw seems quite loose to me, so im thinking maybe its winding itself in and out as I drive around?? gonna head down to hellfrauds tommorrow to see about getting some thread lock, hopefully it may solve it by making the screw a bit tighter
