Idle Woes

Hi,

I've been having issues with my idle, my car starts fine, and the rpm is very low about 500rpm, verging on cutting out, as my engine warms up, the rise until they are at a normal level about 900rpm.

To stop me stalling at every junction until my engine is hot, ive adjusted the throttle cable so its slightly open so it runs at about 900rpm cold and then 1500 warm. However this is far from ideal.

I have checked all the pipes and cant find any air leaks, also tried squeezing the AAV but this has no effect on the revs.

The car starts fine and pulls like a train.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations about how I can fix this?

These problems started about 3 days ago.

Thanks

Had another play on my way to work this morning. Got it to tick over with the throttle closed, it was fine when sat still but going from moving to stopped (every junction) I had to take it out of gear, and then coast up with one foot on the throttle and one on the break. When I got to work, (about 15 minutes) it could just about hold when I took my foot of the throttle...

Hi,

Had a bit of progress with it, after being annoyed at how crap it drives in town, I decided to have a b road blast, got back into traffic and was ticking over 2k. Popped the bonnet as soon as I could and the idle screw was pretty much hanging right out. Screwed it back in (burnt my hand a bit) and all was okay. Now it increases as the screw works it way loose but i keep tightening it so not too bad. Any ideas for keeping the screw held in?

Thanks

a new idle screw oring is what you need, halfods/ebay do big kits wi loads o sizes in. remove screw, bin oring, fit new one in right size and you're done

Hi,

Had a trip to halfords last night, bought a pack of small o rings. Took the idle screw out, the ring on it was really hard, felt like plastic more than rubber, managed to get it off with a bit of a fight. Fired a nice new supple ring on, screwed it back in, adjusted. All goes fine!

Happy days!
