Identification of cylinder head

I believe I have a Mk1 diesel cylinder head that has the letter H stamped on it and a serial no of 068103.373.

Can any one confirm this is a mk1 cylinder head or is there another way of making a positive identification from the head alone.???

cheers ryk :?

It looks like a part number but its coming up invalid. Better to give the year and model of the car, and ETKA can say what the part number for the cylinder head would be....

Help needed to unravel this problem

Life is never simple!!

I thought this would be easy without having to expand.

Let me tell you a story - are you sitting comfortably??

Back in the late 70s and early 80s a company called 'Pettar' brought a large number of the diesel injected engine ( non turbo ) from vw.
These were converted for marine use by fitting their own exhaust system and fitting a marine gearbox.
Needless to say I own one of these boats with this engine of which the camshaft snapped and shattered the head at the no 1 valve cap

I have been informed that I could replace the engine with anything from 1982 - 1992 as the mating faces of the exhaust and gearbox were the same. Therefore I got a 1983 engine from a breaker fitted it and within 2hrs the big end went!!!  not happy

I then thought just change the heads

So I fitted the old block to the boat, cleaned the newly obtained head taken off the engine that had just died and went to fit it.  :?

It was when I aligned the head gasket did I notice the difference
The new head had extra ports

compared with the old head

Being a boat engine the original block will not have encountered much heavy workload nor have run as many hours, there fore it would be benifitial if i could fit another head to the old engine block. If only I knew what engine I had!! :banghead:

Therefore I have one good head, one good block, neither are compatable and I do not know what model of engine is which.

So I ask you if you can help me with this puzzle for if I can identify which is which I would hope to buy the right bit therefore not waste any more money!!! :D

PLEASE!!!!
