Ahh brilliant while I am on the subject what is the difference between tappets and followers on are the one of the same but with a different name??

I may be wrong but I dont think that the 8v engines use followers.  I think followers are for cars that have a wider angle between the valves so the cam turns and pushes the follower/rocker up and down moving the tappet which in turn opens and closes the valves :)

i thought followers were found on engines without an overhead cam - that the push rod sits in and the cam acts on to push the push rod up and down??  could be barking up the completely wrong tree though!
