how tight does a cam belt have to be..

having lots of problems with my mk1 gti and have just notice that the cam belt isnt very tight and can be wiggled by hand about 1cm..is this ok. iv only had that done a few weks ago and now wont even start.. could this be related.  :cry:

If the timings out then it can cause poor starting, so check that the marks are all alligning up as they should be as per the haynes manual and get a timing strobe to fine tune it.

You should be just able to twist the belt 90degrees using light finger pressure any more and its too loose.
