How many bolts????

How many bolts????

Right how many bolts should be holding the throttle body thing to the head. The bit just above the manifold

VW have told me 4, I've only got 2 in and there is 6 holes. I reckon there should be 6. Also I'm presuming that there should be a gasket, which mine seems to be missing.

:dontknow:  These are the Allen key type bolts aren't they as I replaced the only two I have in with normal bolts when I relised they were missing but am going to get some from VW.

Let me know so I can get them on order.

ETKA shows 4 x N   014 717 2 M8x40 allen key bolts.

this looks correct when looking at one of my engines.

You need 049 133 073 B gasket also

Yeah thats what they said at the VW why's there 6 holes then. and if you only put 4 bolts in what holes do you put them into.  Obviously the end 2 but where the other 2 go. :dontknow:  :dontknow:

Hope they got that gasket in stock and not another thing to put on order. NEver get the motor running, although seemed to be running alright without and with only 2 bolts.

Mine had 6 in.. If I remember correctly 4 short and 2 longer.. if you look at the inlet manifold the length of hole varies

VW do only list 4 bolts of the same size… Strange!

Yeah thought there should be 6 so wander now if the 4 VW are going to sell me are 4 long ones or 4 short ones. :banghead:  :dontknow:  This gets stranger by the minute.

I'm guessing the 2 longer ones are the end 2??????

VW supplied me with 4 short ones… they can get 'generic' longer bolts for something like 89p each which seemed to do the job!

can't remember the position of the longer bolts

Well will get the 4 shorter ones from VW and then got the two I'd taken out that I put in myself anyway so should be alright.

Well, just been and had a look and shoved a long bolt through, seems to be 3 long and 3 short.

going from left to right as you look in the engine L S L S L S

Also been to GSF and the gasket they tried to sell me looked wrong, so looks like that will have to go on order from VW as well.

Tell me about it hopefully they will have my rocker cover gasket and pegs tomorrow providing they've ordered the right things, but didn't really want to put that on without putting the inlet mainfold and gasket back on as theres more space.

Although do want the car for the weekend, so might just have to whack the manifold back without gasket and only 2 bolts again. Well it was running alright before anyway.

It would help if they even knew what they were talking about, but I don't have any faith in my local VW, and the only thing that cheers me up is the chick on the reception and she weren't even there last week. :(

mine ran ok without a gasket! although when I had running troubles I put one on as I thought unmetered air was leaking in (wasn't that though in the end!), as long as there's no bits left from the old one it should be ok.. just more work

my local VW is great if I get to speak to one of 2 people working there who know they're stuff

Well am going to have to order the bolts so might as well get a gasket at the same time, although might put it all back together if I get the right bits tomorrow so at least its driveable until I get a bit more time.

smithysmoo - have pm'd you.

Seem to remember 3 long/3 short when i did mine. ETOS also indicates 3 short ones and 3 long ones. Gives the parts numbers as N 044 714 1 (long) and N 014 751 3 (short).

Cheers
