High pitched squeal from engine

Hi every one, I need some help with my new golf cabby ive just had the gear box replaced and now have another problem.

When i start the car evert thing is normal, But when the car warms up i get this high pitched squeal from the engine that increases in pitch when i increase the revs.
I think its comming from around the cambelt area low in the engine bay. Could it be the alternator, Or something more technical.
It's an 1800 gti cab on a 87 plate.

Any advice would be more than welcome :banghead:
Many thanks, Rich

I know when i replaced my Timming belt i never put the covers on straight and it was squealing. Other than that have u tried pressing the clutch and see if it goes. Just a thought!

sounds like the alternator belt not on tight enough or the belt may be hitting the cover?

hope it is nothing more serious.  :?

i also had this problem, it was the metal back plate which sits between the cam belt and engine block, it was catching the lower pully, could only see it from under the car i managed to bend it back with some long nose pliers.....
