Help with cam cover removal

I'm changing the head gasket on my 1.8 8v Dx engine and I've come stuck at the cam cover of all things.

I've taken off the top 2 bolts but the hex bolt on the side in the middle of the cover is just turning freely with an allan key.

Has anyone got and ideas on how I'd get it off?

Thanks

I had a right nightmare with this myself. Only way I got it off was to muller the cam belt cover just above the area of the hex nut, you should then see the bolt that goes into the block and you will need a pair of mole grips on it and then hopefully undo the hex nut.  Bit brutal I know and ment a new cover but was the only way i could do it. Problem you have is that the bolt won't come all the way through the cover as it has a larger piece in the centre behind the cover. I tried all sorts of things before finally resorting to this.

TBH I wished there was an easier way but spoke to a few peeps, had some look aswell and none could come up with another option. One thing to try is to tighten it up as much as you can, this may tighten the bolt enough in the block but I did try this and it didnt work, prob was after time I knackered the hex on the bolt. I had to go one further than my last explanation and cut slightly into the 2nd cover which is plastic where the bolt goes through, through the plastic cover the bolt has basically a nut type thing in the middle which you can get a spanner on. If the mole grips wont work on the thread then thats the neaxt step I took. Al;so you have to be a bit harsh with the cambelt as it gets in the way. I had another person move it a bit while I got the tools in. One thing to remember though use locktight when replacing the bolt else you will have the same problem.

Again I know it sounds all very harsh but seeing as no other replys I don't think theres much other options.

Thanks for your advise dan, it worked. I went in heavy handed and bought a new cover to replace.
