Help! unconnected pipe ***update....***broke somthing else!!

Please take a look at this:

The blue tube is not connected to anything - can someone please tell me where the hell it is supposed to go? is it anything to do with the cold start or idle setup? Really want to get this cold start/Idle issue put to bed so I can enjoy my new toy!!

Many thanks :)

I think that one goes from the dizzy to the back of the throttle body mate but can't quite work it out in the pic.  Is a breather pipe already connected to the back of the throttle body bud?

I will go check in a bit - but say it was the one that goes in the throttle body would it be causing issues with the starting if it was not connected?

cheers

should it go to the main vac pipe from the brake servo? leading to the inlet manifold

Right…bit of an update…

This is the larger pic of the blue pipe….

The end was all split etc so cut it and found a home for it here….

Have I put it in the right place? and what does it do!?

But, managed to break this in the process…

I have taped the open end as it was leaking air and not running right etc….

What does it do?

cheers all!!

the blue pipe is the vacuum advance/retard for the distributor by the look of it, connects dizzy to inlet manifold for the vacuum, i think the little black thing along it is for the orange? economy light or needle. the bit you have just snapped of is i think again either the economy light or mpg needle, very long time since i have made use of those particular items.

How important is the blue pipe then? just trying to get my understanding of this engine up to scratch as its all very new to me!

the blue pipe controls the advance and retard of your ignition so quite important! the bit you snapped off is usually blanked off, so you need to fill the hole with something - i used a blob of araldite when I snapped mine - just dont run the engine until its dry or it will suck it in lol

Advance and retard? is that somthing to do with the cold starting or am I totally wrong?

The pipe was not connected at all and ran like a bag of crap, waiting for the car to totally cool off to see if I have made progress in my quest for a car that will start when cold without having to rev the nutts off it!

In the ten years I've had my GTI I've snapped two of those blighters, a right t1t of a design. They are usually capped of with green cap. I' ve just taped it up this time.

No idea what its called but I think its a one way valve with vacuum take-off for other equipemnt or diagnostics instruments? I got a spare complete brake servo pipe from a scrapper.
