HELP NEEDED WITH COLD START

hi all  (mk1 gti 83 )
im not very mechaniclly minded (still learning)
im having problems starting the car on cold mornings
i presume it will be the cold start valve
can anyone put up a pic of where it is and possibly how to test it ?
or better still if there is anyone in the york /selby area that could have a look at it for me

is there any way i can check to see if the cold start is working
not even sure if the right wires are going to the tts and aav and the wur
cant find a good engine pic anywhere on the site which shows the wire colours ??

wur + aav red/white wire and brown
tts green/white and red/black
5th inj green/white and black

yeah, the wires are correct
how can i check if they are actually suppling pwer

multimeter or test light across the pins for aav and wur. these get power when the fuel pump is running, easiest way to check is when engine is running. 5th inj only has power acroos when car is cranked over on starter cold.  check the black wire is on the 2nd spade on starter motor ok, if its had wrong motor or fallen off would cause problems

black wire ???
ive got a red and black striped wire on the second terminal
goes off into the loom somewhere

no idea with electrics
might as well be looking at spaghetti  lol

theres your problem! k-jet starters should have 2 spade terminals, 1 red/black wire plus 1 black wire.  the black wire runs to the 5th injector, without that cold starts will be tricky.  have another look near starter, see if you can spot the black wire hanging somewhere. if you have nowhere on starter to fit it, you need to buy a new starter motor!
