HELP-MISSFIRE (KANGAROO) BETWEEN 1000-3000 RPM

HI I'VE JUST HAD MY FUEL CONTROL UNIT CHANGED ON MY 83 GTI. ALL WAS WELL SWEET FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS IT WAS PERFECT. ITS GOT A SLIGHT MISSFIRE WHEN STARTING FROM A DIRTY INJECTOR FOR A FEW SECONDS BUT QUICKLY PASSES. NOW THOUGH MY GOLF IS MISSFIRING OR KANGAROOING IF YOU LIKE AT LOW REVS- ANY IDEAS? MY PLUGS AND LEADS ARE QUITE NEW AND THE CAR SEEMS TO BE IDLEING O.K THE DIZZY IS FINE AND DRY TOO. JUST SEEMS VERY ODD THIS ALL STARTED TO HAPPEN ABOUT AN HOUR AFTER I ADDED SOME STP INJECTOR CLEANER ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED CHEERS. 8O  :banghead:

I'd suspect that some crud has dislodged and is partially blocking your injectors… do Prowler's injection test at www.vwgolfmk1.co.uk

Had a look over me little golf today and found that number 3 injector is jetting very poorly (thanks to crazyquiff for some good advice).
so the story so far is the whole fuel metering unit has been changed which was well shagged any way, just fitted a new filter now just gonna get some new injectors and fingers crossed all should be back to normal. seems funny that i've owned this car for 2 years trouble free now these annoying little problems but then again it's always good to have a little tinkering in the bay.
oh does anyone know if you can get larger injectors to fit or does it just have to be direct replacement?

Hello me…….

Fit the same as came out with new seals you will not notice any difference using different injectors unless you have modified your engine . I tried this using Porsche bits and gave up . GSF are cheapest at about ?25.00 each , change the fuel filter while you at it so no crud ruins the new injectors . Run some fuel system cleaner every 4th tank and it should keep it sweet . How is the fuel filler neck is it rust free as this may be adding to the problem ..

Cheers……….

cool i'll just go to gsf then. the fuel filler neck looks to be o.k, what probably hasn't done me any favours is that i've had it sitting in my garage for 9 months-how lazy! well cheers for the advice.

Hi me, I had the same problem a couple of months ago. After trying all sorts it turned out to be the injectors. Yours should run fine once you've replaced them. Hope you didn't spend too much on the metering head ( about ?600 from VW !!!!!).

Hey, yeah the metering units cost an arm and a leg but as luck would have it i found an early accident damaged mk2 so i robbed it off that ?30 lovely job. I've just changed the injectors, leads, plug leads, spark plugs, metering unit (as you know), fuel filter and no3 cylinder still seems to have a constant missfire now just between 1000-2000 rpm. Really strange as theres hardly any diffference when removing the lead from no3 cylinder. :banghead: hopefully some of you guys can shed some light on the problem.

Sounds like no 3 is your problem then - you done a compression check?

Make sure the injector on 3 is spraying the same as the others then check through the HT side of things.
