help after emmisions fail

hi ive got a mk1 cabby sportline with the 1.8 gti engine mechanical fuel injection, J regga.. think thats all the info you'll need to know…

just been for its mot and failed on emissions.. was double the co2 limit… now my question is, what causes this? the cars been standing for 2 years but had a good run out before i took it for test.. seems to be running fine too.

any ideas?

I assume you mean double the CO limit.


Adjust the mixture, its described in the technical section on the left, under "fuel injection". I am surprised the garage didn't offer to do this (at a small charge) when it was in their MoT bay.
