Head modifications

Can anybody tell me how to work out or what is a safe/maximum amount i can skim off the head of an 81 1600cc gti?

Skimming a 1.6 head or a 1.8 head to the max is a bad idea even if you skim to min it will only give you a bit more torque as it increase compression as iam sure you know, if it was me i would leave it .if you want more go spend money on other things or just change the engine.

I'd do as above and get the 3a block (sure its the 3a) instead of the major head skim.

Port the shit out of yours aswell while it's off.
