Head compatability?

Hi All
I am 'slowly' collecting all the parts for a 2.0l 8v conversion and I am alittle confused over the whole 'which head will go with which engine'.

I have an opportunity to buy a head with the numbers 026 103 373F stamped on it. I am told it looks identical to a mk1 1800 head. It has been cleaned and polished - stage 3 and is a good price.

My questions are:-
1 - Does anyone know whet these numbers mean or can confirm which head it is.
2 - Which 2.0l blocks would it fit? 2E, 3A, etc?

I plan to use all my Mk1 1800 K-Jet stuff for the conversion.

Many thanks
Huw

  1. It's a part number, sometimes the numbers don't mean much as the whole part is made up of many parts and has its own part number as an assembly, but this one should indicate a 1.8L DX code engine head (best I can determine).
  2. 2E yes, 3A I believe so but an not 100% sure.

thanks Grimy

Where can I find out the info for myself as I don't want to post up here every time I find an option.

DX head is good though - thanks

The main difference were solid lifter heads Vs Hydrolic heads. A PB head from a Mk2 1.8 GTI will fit your block.

the expence is the gasket kit, cam belt idler and belt/oils etc..

this rebuilt head went on a Mk1 1.6 carb version.. it was from a Mk2 Gti (PB). Plus it was ported to stage 3.

the only thing was the injector inserts had to be swapped over.

note tho..the cams are not interchangable so you must use a cam from a PB head.

PS. get the metal head gasket also and a new set of head bolts, and not the cheap ones sold by GSF.. It will last hell of alot longer.
