GTi erratic tick over.

My Campaign has a tendency to be very sluggish when warm.

I can start up from cold with no problems, drive about for several miles and have it ticking over nicely at 800 rpm.

The minute I have to stop and start for whatever reason, it splutters to a start and ticks over at virtually no revs to a point where, if I don't feather the accelerator, it will cut out. Very embarrasing and more to the point frustrating as the car has had a small fortune spent on it.

The engine underwent a complete internal recon a few thousand miles ago and more recently has had a full replacement of the filler neck right through to the fuel filter.

Apart from replacing the tired looking hoses to the manifold, I think it's had everything done.

Or am I missing something?

I know there has been lots of threads about tick over problems but I've never come across anyone with this particular problem.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Paul

I'll have it right one day

best thing is invest in some fuel pressure gauges as that'll tell you what is going on with fuel pump, wur and metering head.

some free things are try unplugging 5th injector then wur, see if that helps. do the fuel injector test linked in the technical menu to the left.

maybe look at the acuumulator and non-return valve in the pump, though these only really effect warm starting once the car has been running for a bit the problem clears

I am experiencing the same problem, replaced the idle screw gasket and seemed to disspear, but on Saturday it did it again after three weeks, I am starting to think I have a leak in the intake manifold, the plastic is very old and could be a little break in some of the plastic pipes…. but I cannot see it!!  :banghead:  :banghead:
