GTi Engine Problems

My GTi is now ready for the road but there is a problem with starting and running.

I turn her over she starts and then dies, this happens about 10 times and then she idles (badly) but runs, and is very lumpy, then when driving her there is a lack of power !!

I think that maybe the timeing is out or there's a lack of fuel ie the Fuel Metering Head or Fuel Pump.

The car has not been on the road since 2005, she has 80,000 on the clock.

Ok I changed the fuel filter and the fuel metering head today and after a while she started and I decided to run her up the road where she completely died on me and would not start again, (no problem with the battery).  I have just removed the spark plugs and they are as dry as a nuns chichey !!! So no fuel, no spark right ?

What would be the best way to check the fuel lines from the fuel metering head ?
