GTI '83 Original 8v injection no start

Hello,
I need some help, I drove my car 3 days ago as normal, went to get in yesterday and all i got was a click when i turned the key and a few dash lights (green indicator light too which was odd) so i assumed it was a flat battery as that was what happened last time (about 6 months ago).
So charged and put back in, turned the key and the same thing except now it clicks like a clock ticking, this happens even when the ignition barrel position is on the first point, so i left it in that position too find out where the noise was coming from, seems to be behind the dash and down the front of the engine near i think the thermostat? ah probably the distributor cap more like?
Could this be a relay or something more serious like a starter motor? Just seems strange that the last journey all went so well!

Could still be a battery issue - try connecting a set of jump leads from a running car and see if it starts. If not we'll go to stage 2….

yeah, dont buy cheap lol

i've done it in the passed and even when they have a 3 year warranty they still suck, especially if your not driving it regularly

i'd go for a Bosch, be tempted to go for one that kicks out a few more amps to help starting in the colder months… i went for a diesel one and never had a problem with it (you might get a few peeps cringing at the thought of the extra amps hurting something but eh, just my experience)

all sorted now thanks for help, I got myself a Varta 60amp and seems to do the job great.
