Greetings and vacuum question

Hello All,

Hope you dont mind a yank on your board…This is the only place I can find that has the resources I need for my 1983 VW Rabbit

I was trying to find a vacuum leak and cannot seem to figure out where the vacuum retard hose (from the distributor cap) runs to.

The advance is pretty straight forward, I have seen photos.  Since it is vacuum retard I am suspicious that I cannot leave it unhooked, as there may be no spring to offset the vac advance???
