golf wont start !!!!!!!!!!!!

hi everyone
first off its a 1.8gti 1985 k-jet

ive got a strong spark, good fuel flow and the cambelts fine.
good air flow and the exhaust is not blocked.

problem i have is that the car was running bad almost like it was running out of fuel( i had half a tank) , she ran fine the night before. then i went to start it to get home from work but shes not fireing atall. ive popped round some garages but no luck as to what the problem is. anyone had this before?

Halfords do them and I suspect most motor factors will have them in stock, I got mine from halfords cos I have a trade card. Think it was only about £8.

Probably worth getting a new rotary arm too while your there.

A few years ago my cab wouldn't start no matter what I tried, it had an 8v gti engine in with the transistorized starting realy thing. It turned out that I hadn't connected the battery negative terminal up correctly and this circuit wasn't making, so it wouldn't start! Took me ages to work that out!

getting her sorted tomorrow. turns out i had a loose cam belt tensioner so the cam belt has skipped a few teeth :/ fingers crossed the engines ok

turns out its not a slipped cam belt after all.
its also baffling the the mechanic as theres no fuel pressure coming down the fuel feed pipe to the engine. but there is fuel flowing from the return pipe towards the engine. anyone had this before? only thing i can think of is reversed polarity on the pump connections and there all as they should be. any ideas ?

Well think your already there really but it sounds like there's something weird going on with your fuel pump, I recon you should price up a new or second hand pump and try that.

id say its the in-tank fuel pump that has packed in. if this happens main pump really struggles when tank gets low. if it runs like this for a while main pump will also pack in! could also be blocked fuel filter, well worth changing as cheap n easy.

to diagnose lift pump, disconnect wires from main puimp and turn key 1 click or crank over, should hear in-tank pump preime/run. may have to take rear seat out and put ear right up to the black metal disc to hear it!  if no sound, it dead.
