golf gti cabby 1989

i have a golf gti cabby thats been stood for around 4 weeks in that time its not been started .
i have just had the steering gear bracket done on sunday .
every think is back together i have tryed to start it and it just turns over . i cheqed the sparkies ect all ok
i tryed it agen and it fired up but i had to rev it to keep it going mmmmm
so i turned it off and tryed agen it just turned over this is a first time i have owned a golf gti mk 1 .
before it ran fine ect arhhhhhhhhh
help me please

Moved to big block injection section.

got rid of the golf swaped it for a mk4 escort xr3i cabby cant be doing with these german  cars had it for 8 weeks now back to ford and staying with ford
