fuel relay failed again ?

Post

My 18 gti DX has just broken down, it was driving fine I stopped to drop off the nippers to school and it wouldn't start again GGGrrr !

Once I had finished swearing and cursing it and calmed down I noticed that the fuel pump want kicking in when I turned the ignition and also there was no "click" from the fuel pimp relay.

I am right, the fuel pump relay should click shouldn't it ?

Ok so went in with a calm mind and realised the relay is clicking so that's not the fault. So it must be the fuel pump ?

That is also only 4 weeks old so I assume it must be a faulty product ?

or is there something that could cause my fuel pumps to keep breaking ???

Any help would be great, thanks :ocf_emoticons__BangHead:

try the relay 17/18 in the pump socket. if pump works then your relay has died

Hi, no the fuses were not blowing, I bridged the two main terminals on the fuse box and the fuel pump kicked in, so I have fitted a new one and it works now.

But !  now when I select reverse the fuel pump relay goes nuts ( which was likley what happened before to make it fail)

Any idea's on what could be causing this ?

Thanks again

hmm i think either your fusebox is damaged or you have a wiring fault in the loom. best place to start is get the fusebox off its hanger and check all the wiring closely for scotchlocks or black tape. check fusebox for signs of water damage and corrosion. sdo the same in the engien bay in particular look at the reverse switch wiring and the coil wires
