Fuel pump keeps going

Post

Hi,
any help on this would be much appreciated. When I turn the engine off, 1.8 dx injection, the fuel pumps keep going. They will only stop when I remove the relay 19. I,ve tried changing the relay but still does it. Engine has been out for a year and refurbed but had this problem before.

Hi,
further to this message, now realised fuel pump relay is 62, and has not been replaced, could this be at fault. Had a look behind fuse box and there's a number of fresh wires  been put in, so someone's had fun in the past!

Hi, yeah realised it was 62, when I turn the ignition off, fuel pump keeps going until I wiggle relay 62. Do you think it's relay or something behind, ie fuse box or coil wiring? Don,t really want to fork out £25 if I don't have to. Someone on eBay just quoted me £19.95 second hand …joker.

sounds liek relay is damaged or the fusebox is to blame somehow, try an 18 relay in the socket see if that stops it. wont be safe to keep it like this but ok to get you going in the short term. gsf sell relays so get yourself down there asap :)

maybe take the lid off your 62 relay once the 18 is in it, see if the contacts can be cleaned or anything. also check fusebox for corrosion, if its bad replace it

Many thanks for your advise Rubjonny, I tried a different relay in and pump stopped when ignition turned off, so I opened up relay 62 and found a small coil which operates a bimetallic strip to make contact for the switch, a little bending of this seems to have cured it for now. On with the rest of the resto!
