FLOODING WON'T START HELP!!!!!!!

Had noticed a fuel smell in my christmas cabriolet, then got in it the other morning, started it and moved a few feet and cut out. I t now won't start. There is fuel/ spark. but it is flooding the engine bad!!!!!!. I took the fuel relay out and it starts, but then cut out as no fuel. Anyone had the same prob. Was thinking on checking to fuel return to see if blocked!!!!!! Any pointers anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :banghead:

I had similar issue last year - faulty cold start valve. Dry the spark plugs of excess fuel and disconnect the CSV - then give it a go!

Yeah had this on afew old MK1's,

Had it been there a few days, leaky injectors as well as the cold strt injector do it, Quick fix to get going is to plant your foot on the accelerator till it clears it out the system and then it will be fine.

To check which injector it is, leave it over night or longer, remove all the plugs and move the leads out the way. Turn it over and look under the bonnet at the same time, which ever pot is blowing exess vapour initially is the trouble some one.

Number one could be either the main injector or the cold start injector.

There are more comprehensive and more technical methods to check these obviously but in this cold weather you don't have to worry about popping injectors out of those rock hard rubber grommets and not getting them back in for you to drive to work the next day!!!
