Engine running hot

Hi guys,

Please feel free to shout if this is in the wrong place.

I have a KR engine running on ZX9R carbs in my mk1 and it seems to be running hot, it is fine at driving speeds but as soon as I encounter traffic it gets hotter and hotter! (Coolant temp needle sits about half way when driving, but doesn't stop climbing when stationary). The fan kicks in at the correct time but the temp just keeps climbing, as if the fan just isn't drawing enough air through the rad.

Will find the time to flush the cooling system and replace coolant but does anyone have any other suggestions?

What size radiator? New or getting a bit old now???

radiator temperature sensor maybee?

Incorrect mixture and timing can both result in hot running.

Silly thoughts like the thermostat spring to mind…

A flush out of the cooling system never goes amiss… make sure you actually flush ALL of it - It's easy to flush the block OR the radiator…
