engine removal and refitting
Anyone know whether it is possible to remove an engine without the use of a crane, ie, under the front of the car. I have already removed the gearbox.
I will be splitting the head and bottom end anyway so i could do this first if it would make it easyer. Then i will be refitting a new bottom end, mounting it, then putting the head on.
Thanks
Nick

how strong are you?
can be done, just need a couple of friends, a scaffold bar and some chains.

Are you suggesting lifting it out the top then?
cos if you are then i think i will get a crane.

lift the front of the car up, it can be done. just need enough mates to lift it! I used a crane to lift the front of my cabby up then slid engine in from underneath.

I used a coule of jacks - support the engine, undo the gearbox&engine mounts, lower the engine down on the jacks. Then jack the car up as high as possible - I managed to wheel the engine out on the trolley jacks if I tilted it back a bit. Did it by myself, but a bit of a fiddle, would be better if there was a couple of you
