engine identification....

Hey.. just joined.. just bought me a tasty Mk1 Cab…  

Can anybody tell me by these pics what engine is fitted to it though… there is a bit  of confusion….

log book says 1.8, owner says different! can probably get the engine number off it by tomorrow.. which one is it?

Its an 1800 gti engine, i think the code for them is DX

I know the gearbox has been changed at some point… but as far as i kno to a standard one..

has a mild cam in it aswel, can just about figure it out by the blue on  the cam pulley.

But the dumbass gal was tellin me it was a 2.0, and i was saying it was a 1.8!! so yea thanks anyways..

What kinda 'bolt on' mods can be done to the gti, apart from cams and cylinder head?!.. i am guessin it is the 8v right?!? soz but golfs are unchartered territory for me.. ask me anything about a A series mini engine and i would know tho!

It is an 8v, but the person you bought it from could be telling the truth, theres every chance that someone has fitted a 2ltr bottom end at some stage. Look on the block, at the top right hand side theres a small flat machined surface and the engine code is stamped on there. If its a standard 1800 gti engine im pretty sure Dx is the correct code.

If it has a 2 litre bottom end already and an uprated cam then really you cant do much else without bigger bucks apart from k&n exhaust/manifold bigger throttle body/warm up reg, then its head work/bottom end balancing etc.
