Engine gone on M1

Traveling home last night and in a traffic jam noticed that steam was coming from grill so pulled on hard shoulder straight away but as i was doing this lost all power and engine cut out.

On closer inspection Rad was blocked burst a pipe over boiled engine and now head gasket has gone

The thing is no light started flashing when the expansion tank was empty but it does a quick flash when i start the engine so i thought it worked ok

What to do now

1. Change head gasket and carry on
2. Engine out and full rebuild

I don't want to put a different engine into it want to keep the original engine

i would put new timing kit on too when you do the head. just depends on how long ago it was done.

here for a good time, not a long time

When you drop your oil check to ensure that it is not brown (water/oil emulsification). If it is then the oil will have degraded substantially and could cause future (not too distant either) big end failure. Were you getting smoke out the exhaust? Depends where the head gasket has failed as to the damage done, fingers cross that a skim (if needed) will sort you

Good luck

Head gasket isn't such a big job if you've got a bit of sun or a garage! One tip is get some fairy power spray to clean the bottom of your valves while you can get at them, the pictures of it's miracle action are on here somewhere and went on just after I'd bolted my head back on!!  :banghead:
Good luck and hope it's just the skim!
