mine was the same when we had the snow. Did the wd40 spray and that sorted it. Give the inside of the dizzy cap a good squirt aswell

Probablies just the air density screwing up your air/fuel mixture

Sounds like it's a bit more than that though, otherwise your car would have to be retuned every time you went from Yorkshire to the seaside, wouldn't it?

Reckon the moisture content of the fog might be more likely as above?

I've had a couple of minis and they'd literally invariably die if you followed a wagon down a waterlogged motorway untill I put a big bit of bent plastic in front of the dizzy.  Mended.

A "get you home" mod was a marigold or surgical glove over the top of the dizzy with a plug lead out of each digit and liberal blobss of vaselene as sealaant.

cheers for all the info,i changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm before i set oof back home, made a bit of difference but not much, could the ignition leads be letting in moisture as well...

if the leads are breaking down they will cause the problems you describe, try giving them a really good clean first with wd40 along the whole length of each and check there is no visible damage. if they are arcing when wet you should be able to see at night :-)
