Drink problem

Hello all
my car is a1.8 gti
and it drinks to much fuel
it's got no leaks
I put 20 notes of juice in it the other day
and now it's in the red
only 90 odd miles
any ideas?
Or do I get the mobile tuner round?

Thanks

im getting about 15 mpg ,the bob weight springs in the  distributcr are goosed, which in turn knock the timing out,so need a new 1.6 dizzy if any one has one going cheap;)

are you sure it's drinking it and the gauge is not hiding it,mine does it,you put twenty in it and with in a few miles it's back in the red but if you keep going the needle will go right past the red :dontknow:

It's not doing that,i've been watching it for a while
I suppose a tune up won't hurt
as I've never had it done
neather had the previous owner

auxiliary air valve (drivers side on the rear of the inlet manifold), so how has the idle been set as when they fail it will idle normally when cold but idles high once warmed up, i assume the idle has been adjusted to compensate so will idle low when cold and about right when warm, this is the valve http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK1-INJECTION-SYSTEM-VALVE_W0QQitemZ150423698543QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2305f37c6f

It's idleing a bit high at the mo
once the new parts in place should start to idle properly again
with I slight adjustment
I don't need to use the car at the moment
so I'll wait for the new part form gsf
I wounder how much a new part from vw would be
anyone got a part no?

So faulty valve, it may be worth just checking your getting a voltage on the two wires entering the valve, it probably is the valve but i did have one car with a wiring fault going to the valve, is the valve available from gsf then? i has to buy one about 5 years back for my 1600 gti but found they where obsolete, i did find a dealer with stock though

and what happens when hot???

Post

Euro car parts did not have them gsf did
haven't asked my local dealer yet

it has been a bit running hot
are both heater vents inside the car run from the same pipe or differant?
Mine top vent lets out hot air
and the large cold air
is this right

I think he meant what happens if you pinch the hose coming from the valve when the cars hot, the idle should drop indicating the valve is not operating either due to failing or no power to the valve, i assumed earlier that you tested the valve when hot as of course testing when cold you would expect the revs to fall with even a working valve as it will be open
