Does radweld work?

I have an ongoing problem with the coolant system leaking. I have replaced virtually everything component wise, bar the metal pipe. An yet I am getting drips from a few joints, would I be wise to put radweld into a system which currently has known in it? Will it fix my small leaks or clog everything up?

Help much appreciated.

Thanks

personally i wouldnt touch the stuff its just a quick bodge to sort a problem that would come back worse later on.

ive heard of it blocking rads and heater matrix's ect.

just take ya time and find out why your joints are leaking.

thats just my oppinion tho :)

yes it can work but its only delaying the inevitable. A new rad aint that expensive anyway.

i believe an egg white is supposed to work as well but not met anyone who has tried it

On the contrary, I used radweld in a 306 DTurbo for over 3 years and never had an issue.

The reason was, I'd just replaced the radiator but then proceeded to stick a screw drive into as i attached the fan.  It seals the leak VERY quickly, then goes on to seal others in future. Never had a problem with overheating or anything afterwards.

Thumbs up from me

i have heard storys off it lasting well, theres a similar product that seals head gaskets which i used on an old engine i just needed to last me 2-3 weeks tops, i had no problems i even sold the car to m8 at work for 50 quid as he need car deperatly and as i no longer needed i offered to him explaned what i done 50 quid took a punt last him 5months b4 someone went up the back off it,

so yes these products can work but normal last a very short time but have heard and experinced the magical storys

Dad used it on the heater matrix on our old 306 for years.  Bloody thing seeped ever so slightly and it was a complete dash out job to change. taking the dash out of a 306 is not fun.

radweld/barsleak usually lasted about 9months before it needed doing again. Had the waterpump changed during all this and there was no clogging on the pump or the thermostat.

I've used it on cars with slightly weeping core plugs and it's sealed it and they've never leaked again!!!!

Dont expect it to seal a massive leak, it wont.

Eggs do work as well, drop a whole egg in a cold engine and leave it running for 10 mins. Heater on if the matrix leaks, off if it doesn't.  It'll generally seal a leak depending on the concentration of antifreeze you use. 25-35% it works, over that it wont work for long.

The idea is that these "bodges" only set solid in air leaks much like tyre sealant. They can be surprisingly good!

dont do it on a car you like. did it on mine and it killed off my matrix. did a head gasket on a mk2 and all the coolant holes were clogged with radweld, which caused it to overheat and warp the head.

theres no job on a mk1 which is so hard as to requirte you to use radweld, just keep the system topped up till you can fix it. radiator - easy. matrix - easy. head swap -easy.
