distributer problems

hi guys ive got a golf gti cabriolet that ive owned for a 6 months and im having some problems with starting at the moment.
everythings been fine until a few days ago , i went out to got to work in her and i couldnt get her started, previously ive never had any problems at all, anyway it took me about ten minutes before she would actually fire up but what i noticed was that the indicator light on the dash was glowing green slightly on trying to crank her over.
anyway she started and all was fine for a few days untill we had that really cold weather on thursday when she did exactly the same thing but would not fire at all this time.
i called the AA out and he did a few tests and put it down to the hall sender unit as when he unplugged it it was corroded slightly he tried to clean it up but it still wasnt having any of it.
there is power going to the lead that plugs into the dizzy but nothing getting past it, the AA guy said that i could buy a new hall sender unit but they are a nightmare to fit or buy a new dizzy, so what im wanting to know is if you think hes right with his diagnosis or do you guys think it maybe something else, and also how much and where will i get a new dizzy and what model will i need.

thanx in advance

the aa guy had apparently tested for the moby to see if it wasnt working aswell, good old aa if ya want summat doin right do it yourself.
