Crankcase Ventilation

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how the crankcase ventilation is supposed to work on a 1.8 gti. As I'm not sure if I have a problem or not.

Basically I took the car to crazy quiffs and have swapped out numerous things. One of these was the throttle as it didn't have the screw that adjusts the butterfly. When we changed it over it Idle'd really high even with the screw fully wound in.

We thought it would be an air leak and we found that the rubber hose from the metering head has is sucking in air into the inlet. We nipped the pipe and the revs dropped. Rich didn't have a spare so I was going to look for a replacement.

Today I took off the pipes and cleaned everything to find that the one way check valve is open on idle.

When I close the hole the revs drop back to normal.
Is this normal operation?
If so could anyone tell me what it's doing?
Here's the part in question with the engine running.
The check valve is open pulling air in through the valve.
If anyone could possibly pull there's out and see if it looks the same I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Tony.

Just to update.

Turned out that this is working correctly.
The air leak was coming from the Y-shaped pipe to the left of the breather.

I just pushed it home and the idle dropped back to normal.
