Correct toll for removing shims

Are they still available, I am going to be Re shimming the tappets on my DX head very soon and it would help to have the right tools for the job.  I am fed up with struggling in the past…

Shims seem to be becoming difficult to get now GSF have stopped.

I use a large screwdriver, magnet, small screwdriver and a 10mm square bar, bent and with the end ground verically so that it is about 7mm wide for about 20mm of the length.

It is very easy to use the large screwdriver to push the tappet down and insert the bar on the edge of the bucket under the cam.  I use the small screwdriver on the edge of the shim to break the suction of the oil and the magnet to get the shim out.

Takes about 1 hour to do the whole job.

The pliers are ?41 & vat and the lever is ?24 & vat and still available from VW

Any luck with some shims crazy???

Thanks for the replies, I think I will try the diy method first as 70 odd quid for the tools has swayed me a bit  :)
