coolant loss

Post

hi

I am gradually losing coolant 'somewhere' but not sure where, I have had a look and I can't see any signs of a leak or any residue… the water isn't discoloured at all.

just wondering the best thing to do… is there a home pressure test I could rig up or is there another way?

Cheers

Guy

How much do you think you are losing per day or week?
Have you had a look for any white gunk on the underside of the oil filler cap?

Silly question any stains on the floor ?
I had a slight leak and it was a pipe to the raidiator that needed tightening up.

Worth checking the top metal bracket that holds the radiator in place, mine got rusty and caused a small leak only visible when cold as the water evaporated when hot.

What's your hose onto the coolant tank like? I have found if it's in any way frayed once the pressure builds up it can spit a bit.
Maybe have a look at the two hoses going through the bulkhead into the heater matrix, there are joints in these hoses that went in mine recently.

look closely at the radiator, particulalry the joins between the cores and end caps. near the bottom is a good one for a hidden leak, and since the front valance is hollow wont see any drips on the floor!

Thanks John... the rad is my prime suspect at the moment... its got a whacking great dent in it I noticed today when I took the front grille off to change the spotlights.
