car wont rev all the way

Hello fellow mark 1 owners

I got a W reg mark one GTI 1.8. When I use a new rotor arm with the built in limiter the car wont rev to 6,500rpm. The car or limter kicks in around 5,500rpm. If use my old rotor arm there is no problem and revs all the way.
I used a cheapo rotor arm, used two beru ones set at 6,700rpm and another beru rotor arm set at 6,900rpm.
Does anyone have any idea what it could wrong with her. Its annoying me

Many thanks

Christopher

Maybe answered your own question there! - Cheapo rotor arm possibly?

Put a plain one back in so you have no limiter at all. -Although I do find valve bounce rather annoying!

1. There is not point reving the car to the limit there is no power at the the top of the rev range, 5,500 rpm is about as far as you want to go.
2. What number fuel pump relay do you have fitted? if it's a VW one it will have big white number on the top.

I'm with Yomp change the rotor arm and see if it will go higher but make sure your oil temperature is at least 80 degrees if reving it to death…….

I'm just curious as to why you're revving the nuts off it?  O_o

I personally won't take mine past 4,000 simply because I don't have enough carrier bags to collect the pieces when of hell lets loose!

Same lump but with 17bhp less.

As above, that's what concerns me!

I was driving up the M3 motorway one rush hour morning in an Escort RS Turbo (yes in white).
Doing about 85 mph on the fast lane when the cam belt let go.
All hell broke lose I can tell you, scared the willies out of me into the bargain!  :o

Not much left by the time I came to a standstill on the hard shoulder.  O_o
